Baby Buttoneyez (Harold Burns) 2011
It's been a few months since I have picked up this project. I love this disguise. I love the ways in which the disguise both envelops the individual and is filled and personalized by each model. I love the unnatural light and the way in which the digital camera captures it.
My introduction to the concept of "Uncanny Valley" occurred several Halloweens ago in the course of wearing this disguise. A young woman ran up to me and said, "You're from the Uncanny Valley!" Naturally I concurred. It sounded so cute. I was still thinking about it the next day and a quick google introduced me to Masahiro Mori and his Uncanny Valley. It has informed my work ever since.
If anyone is curious, I use a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W220 on the high ISO setting. It was cheap, pink and has been a great tool for this project.
