Here is a bit I wrote about this for a show...(April 2010)
"Venus of the Valley" is currently a work in progress to be temporarily installed hanging under the Octavia Blvd overpass near Stevenson Street. It consists of masses of ruffled pink tissue paper woven through a fishing net lattice.
This piece in situ will hang as a radiant swaying emphemeron, under a freeway, over a piss and shit soiled parking lot. It will be a fleeting apparition that both comments on the ephemerality of those human creations that seem so solid and permanent (the freeway) and offers ecstatic counterpoint to the visceral humanity (the excrement) that saturates the site. It will appear as a vision of beauty to those who pass below.
"Venus of the Valley" is part of a larger ongoing public intervention called the Uncanny Valley Initiative.
